Aerolíneas Argentinas is the main airline in the Argentine Republic dedicated to commercial transportation of passengers and loads. Moreover, it is the biggest state-run airline in Latin America. We are going to talk about its origins, fleet, routes and other interesting facts on its roles nowadays.
- Origins
Aerolíneas Argentinas was founded in 1950 as a result of the union of Alfa, Beta and Fama, the leading airlines in the country, which was driven by a decree issued by the then president Juan Domingo Perón. The company was privatized from the middle ‘90s up to 2008, when the companies that formed the Aerolíneas Group were owned by the State again.
During its first years, it added iconic aircraft such as the DC-3 and the Comet IV which inaugurated what is known as the era of the jet, a technological step that reduced flight times to a half. It was a ground-braking company for its use of this type of airplanes as well as direct international flights

It flies to 37 destinations within the country, apart from operating in 18 different destinations within America and Europe. It is included in the Sky Team along with other 19 airlines globally, being the only member in the region. Thanks to this alliance, it offers a connection with 1062 destinations in 117 countries. Additionally, it is recognized for being one of the safest airlines worldwide, chosen by Traveler´s Choice Awards as the best Latin American airline due to its onboard facilities and punctuality.
- Current fleet
The company has made an important renovation of its fleet and infrastructure lately. It has its own pilot training center (CeFePra) and also the biggest hangar in Latin America. The current fleet is composed of the aircraft Embraer 190, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 737-MAX8 and Airbus 330-200; it has a total of 80. These airplanes have replaced old and less efficient models.
